Anyone have ideas on a hitch for a non-Honda hitch for 2004 CRV?

I have a Hidden Hitch as well which I have used for a small boat and
motorcycle trailer ('02 CRV). Works great, and so far the finish is holding
up well, unlike many hitches you see out there. Install was fairly easy. I
bought mine here, good people and price (though the site doesn't have much
info/pics because it is more of a wholesale type of site). If you order,
call them, they are helpful:
http://www.macsspring.com/website/hitches.htm

Here is a site with a few different types:
http://www.hitch-web.com/

Someone else here just mentioned Curt hitches - I have heard good things
about them too, and I believe they are the only company to make a 2"
receiver, which is more of a cosmetic thing for the CRV because the 1 1/4"
receivers easily handle the 1500 lb limit of the newer CRV.

The cheap wiring harness that many of the above places sell works fine,
though getting the rear hatch panels off to plug it in is a slight pain in
the ass.

Just wanted to say thanks to all for the hitch advice. According to
hitch-web.com, Curt MFG. does make a class 2.5, 2" receiver for the
2004 CRV rated at 3,500 LBS trailer weight and 350 LBS tongue weight -
- Curt hitch model 12515. The hitch, however, does not support
weight distribution equipment. But that's OK -- the advantage of the
extra load capacity and 2" receiver is good enough for me.

There is a cheaper Curt 12515 hitch (approx. $30 cheaper after
shipping charges) located at truckandsport.com. However, I went
with hitch-web.com because they are the only ones that advertised
that the hitch is compatible with the 2004 CRV. At least if things
don't work, I shouldn't have trouble returning something for not
performing as advertised. I'll keep board posted of results.

Again, thanks!

Further to my previous note, I recognize that the Curt 12515 hitch
may have capabilities beyond that of my 2004 CRV. However, the added
receiver capacity of a Class 2.5, 2" hitch provides many more options
for bike racks and other non-towing applications. Moreover, many
hitch attachments available for my 2000 Odyssey, Class III, 2" hitch
are also compatible with a Curt 2" hitch connected to my 2004 CRV. In
other words, I could by several attachments that could be used on
both vehicles without reconfiguration of the vehicles.

In addition, to the 12515, I bought the Converter harness right from my Honda
Dealer and installed it myself.....

I just installed the Curt 12515 on my 2004 CRV. Looks sharp. Wasn't
that difficult to put on, however, the means to do so was somewhat
wierd. The muffler hangers need to be temporarily removed during
installation. No adjustments to muffler supports were needed.
However, the screws holding on the hitch are only milimeters from the
muffler. They may hit the muffler if on a bumpy ride.

The hitch is nice because it rides high as compared to the Honda
factory hitch. The Honda hitch is supported, in part, by the hitch
loop under the vehicle. This causes the Honda hitch to ride low
beneath the hitch loop. The Curt 12515 rides to the rear (back of
vehicle)of the hitch loop with bottom only slightly below the hitch
loop. This is what allows the 12515 to ride much higher than the
Honda hitch.

So far so good. I'll let you know how it performs when appropriate.
