Hi all,
this is my first posting here and I hope somebody can help me. I
just had an accident while driving on an icy road. The car in front
of me braked real hard and I hit the brake too but my 98 crv kept on
sliding forward and hit the guy on the bumper. The right side of
the front bumper is damaged; it is still in one piece but is
cracked. The right headlight is ok but is sort of pushed inwards.
The body above the fender is dented. Fortunately the hood looks ok
and undamaged. From what I figure I'd have to replace the bumper,
maybe the headlight housing and fix the body above the fender. Does
anybody know how hard it is to replace the front bumper? Also, does
anybody know of a good bodyshop around the SF bay area?

thanks,

pj

You do not have insurance?

Even on minor accidents I would check the car, unibody
designs can be "bend" even when there is no visble
damage.

I had a minor accident backing into a concrete support in a parking garage a few weeks ago that cracked the rear bumper cover.  I tried ordering a replacement from a couple of discount Honda dealer parts departments for about $130.  The only problem is that the shipping charges were over $100 in addition to the cost of the bumper cover.  I found another place that had the same part for about $70 and shipping was $60.  They are not OEM parts, but they are certified by insurance companies for replacement. The part came as promised in a VERY BIG BOX.  The part was exactly as the damaged OEM part, even the color (dark gray) was an exact match.  There were only two bolts, six screws and about 10 of the plastic rivets that you pop out with a screwdriver (reusable) that held the rear bumper cover on.  The entire replacement took me less than 30 minutes.  I would think that the front bumper cover would be just as easy to replace.  Take a look at this link:

Hi Reid,
thanks a lot, it was exactly what I was looking for. Glad to know
that it wasn't all that hard for you to replace your bumper. The
thing is I have more damage than just the bumper cover. But it
gives me confidence knowing that the parts are just a phone call
away!

I do have insurance, but with only liability coverage. I was
planning to upgrade to comprehensive coverage, but I guess it's too
late now. Thanks - I'll get the car checked for structural damage.
Hopefully it's not that bad.
