I need to replace the front brake pads in my 98 CRV.
Any tips?
Once I have the wheels off, what are the steps needed to get the pads
out and new ones in? If there are some tips that will save me a lot
of headaches, I'd appreciate it.

I've changed pads on a Ford, but not a Honda. Sometimes there are
variations that make the job easier or harder.

I will do the drums (rear later) but how hard are they?? Never did
drums before.

Not really any tips David. I put brakes on my 98
about a month ago and it was very easy. One of the
easier brake jobs you will ever do. Only tech tip I
really have is I chamfer the pads on the leading and
trailing edges to reduce the possibility of squealing
and use never sieze on the caliper hardware. But
thats not a "required" step, just a personal
preference thing.

Thanks Tom,
Are the retaining pins easy to get off/on? Once the old pads are
out, is it difficult to push the piston in? These are ABS brakes, so
I wasn't sure if things were different.

My rotors seem fine, I can't measure them, but they do not seem like
they are in bad shape. No scoring or deep grooves. Only 87K miles.
I'm sure the rotors can go a until the next pad change. Think so?

easy job, my pistons when in fine. As far as rotors,
I never mess with them unless they are warped or
scored. I usually hit them with a 3M pad to break the
glaze and reassemble. trust me, nothing special.

I found the dealer pads to be closely priced to the FLAPS and the material is
thicker (meaning they should last longer). Dealer pads came with all never shims
and anti-squeal grease.

Rear drums: take one side apart and use the other side for guide.

Good luck!!
