Does anybody know what type of headlight bulbs the 1.6 takes?......the manual says something like HB2......what's HB2? is it the equivalent to 9003? 9005?

The bulbs for the 1.6 and the 1.7 are the same. They are H4- HB2- 9003. 55/60 W. Depending on who classifies them. The same bulb is used for high and low beam as well as the DRL. If you're looking for replacements make sure you don't get the higher wattage, unless you install a relay (H4 90/100W), they're brighter but may screw up your wiring harness or damage the reflectors in the housing (too hot). vicman

The 1.6/1.7 use the same headlight bulbs as the 93+ Civic. It uses a bulb called 9003 or HB2 or H4. It is more popularly known as H4. It is also used often for motorcycle headlamps. The wattage is standard 55/60W low and high. Like the other guy said, using overwattage (+60W) will probably strain your electrical wiring and possibly melt your headlight housing. If you are upgrading your headlamps, I recommend Philips Vision Plus bulbs. They don't sell them in North America, only in Europe. But I ordered them from Powerbulbs.com with free shipping (even from the UK). They really improved night time illumination, much more than any other bulbs I have tried. Those bulbs are getting rave reviews in Europe. They are made in Germany by Philips.

I agree with this posting, the Phillips bulbs are good, and German made bulbs for that fact (OSRAM, Sylvania, Narva) . On the 1.6 I use Hella Premium Xenon which is actually a white bulb not blue ( US$12.00 per bulb mail order from the U.S.). http://www.hella.co.nz/xenon.htm It gives a brighter white beam and a noticeable improvement over these so-called HID simulated bulbs, all the road signs and street markings are intensified which means I'm driving safer. I thought before that those "blue" bulbs were actually brighter and looked cooler, but what it did was cut down the visible beam that you actually need in night driving. There is a web article about this that you guys might find interesting: http://lighting.mbz.org/tech/info/bulbs/blue/ vicman

Are they look like HID, superwhite or normal light? I check on the web, the price is 46.5 $ can. for one bulbs so 93 $ can for 2 , look like the price for PIAA Superwhite set.

They are not like those cheap imitation HID bulbs, they offer a whiter light but not blue. What I noticed was that the light cast on the road ahead of me is fuller and more even than the stock bulbs. The stock bulbs have more hot spotting in their light cast. Since the light is of a whiter color, it offers greater visibility. I think that is for two bulbs. They only sell the Philips Vision Plus bulbs in sets of two I think. PIAA bulbs are way to overhyped and overrated in my opinion. Their manufacturing quality certainly can't match that of a big companies like Philips. Philips does make a blueish white bulb called BlueVision, an amber one called WeatherVision (for bad weather conditions), and a regular (though of high quality) Premium bulb.

I am using PIAA super plasma.. it cost quit a bit but I don't have to worry about it getting blown out.. even though if they do.. I can return it and get a replacement.. and they are alot more brighter then the regular euro bulbs.. I went thru 2 sets of 30 dollars euro lights before and though I had enough of them blowing out evey couple months.  If you want me to hook u up with a set of PIAA.. let me know.. It comes with warranty and I can get replacement for you if they are ever blown.          :)  Regards...Sam

Hey Sam, How long have you been running those PIAAs? I thought about buying those too but i've heard complaints about them burning out in 5 months. Does the warranty come with every purchase or do have some kind of special deal with your salesman? Lastly, how much did they cost and do the daytimes realy look like blue HIDs? Sorry about the million questions but i've been searching for a long lasting HID imitation style bulb. Thanks, Dave.

Hey Gary, I used sylvanni cool blue bulbs for quite some time and i thought they were pretty good for the price ($17 per bulb) and the fact they maintain stock wattage. But they're probably not even close to being as bright as piaas. I'm thinking of buying piaas but i've heard that they burn out fast due to the high wattage and they're are extremely expensive ($120). Hope this helps, Dave.

if u live in the GTA area, there is a shop in markham, near bullock drive u can get a brand name called "Mercury Xenon white bulbs" they are pretty bright, they maintain wattage, and produce very bright sunlight white light rays, and they shine within 50-75m in distance, if u're car is 75m away, it will shine onto the car bumper....and reflect white light.. the package is 45 bucks, and they produce 3,900K light intensity

I went to one of these rice shops in Pacific Mall. Although they kinda give you 90 days warranty on those PIAA, but there are conditions when you ask for replacement. Just like everything else. Did you install it yourself or a "trained professional" to install it ? Ha. Gotcha. Ask anyone else who have their PIAAs blown after 5 months. Did they actually have the replacement from PIAA or they just buy another set. For all of you out there, watch out when you buy those simulated HID light bulbs. Don't trust any warranty b.s., they are not worth the money. The quality from PIAA is good, last a bit longer than other aftermarket ones and they do look better. That I agreed. But for $120 ? I really have second thoughts. Just my 2 cents. Regards, Karson

So true. I bought Philips Vision Plus premium bulbs from Europe. They're not as "blue" as those types of bulbs, but the light is white and effective. No cheesy blue tint on the bulb to cut down light.

All those aftermarket blue-tint bulbs are less effective than clear bulbs. Especially PIAAs which are way overpriced.

I got my piaa bulbs from a honda dealer ship which I have a discount with a friend that works there.. and I could just bring it back to him if they are blown.. but I don't know about other stores that sells them.. like ones in pacific mall or other performace shop if they would take back your bulbs for warranty.. usually.. you got to send it to piaa yourself which would be a big hassle.. I have been running them for over a year.. but I have also heard people using the cheaper kind of euro light bulbs for over 2 years and no problem.. I went with piaa cuz I wanted a brighter bulb..they draw the same wattage but output alot more.
