I was talking with a supply store, and was told that a steel, painted header is $250, where ceramic runs $450. Other than lasting longer without corrosion, would the ceramic give better performance

you can get a DC Sports ceramic header for $300, don't even mess around with a painted steel header....that's really cheap! the paint will peel off and the thing will be rusty in a month. go to nopi.com they have headers there....their service sucks though!!

The 88's don't just have a different exhaust manifold. They also have a different intake manifold and throtle body. I would say that if you're looking for a performance boost, don't just buy an old manifold, get a cheap header. Locally, I've found I can get a pacesetter header for the 86-89 series for $150. Basically, I like the 8's a bit better than the 87's. I have an 87 Lxi, my dad and fiance both have 88's. - Aaron

well guys.. im gettin depressed about my slow ride. :) Here's what i have... its an '88 LX.. carbie.. the rebuilt engine has 5k miles on it. when i bought the car it it came with no muffler.. just striaght exhaust from the cat to a resonator tip.. surprising its not too loud. :)) but id like it a bit quieter (im goin for a sweet SQ system). i also have some wheels, but thats not the point.. what if anything should be my first step in gettin some "power" outta this thing?? haha Thanks a lot! dannydigital

Hey guys, got a question here. My 87 LXI is pinging all the time unde light throtle, and the car feels really jerky under steady idle. Any ideas? Timing is right on, plug and wires are new and the gaps are fine. I'm wondering if it's the EGR system.

check your ecu light. the ecu is under the driver seat. i think bad egr will be 11 blinks. did you pgm-fi light come on? if your egr is bad then all you have to do is take off the vacuum hose from the egr to the map sensor and plug the hose so no dust gets in. your car will run much smoother. let me know if you have any questions.
