Just bought a 1997 CR-V. I have a weird vibration mid way throgh accelerating 1st and 2nd gear. It's a subtle vibrations that I can feel in the steering wheel and floor and it only lasts a couple of seconds. Anybody have any suggestions?

Thanks,

Ben

I bought a 2001 Honda crv ( new) and at 750 miles I began having
vibration( an almost grinding noise)I took it to the dealer but the
noise would not happen..it finally got worse at 8000 miles..and the
shop manager at the dealer test drove and felt it was the transmission
and since I was warrantied..they ordered a new tranny rather than
take it apart and try and fix the clutch holders inside the tranny.

Did you buy the honda under a warrranty? or from a dealer(honda)

Sounds like what happened to my 98 V. I would cruise at about 30 without accelerating or slowing down and the V would vibrate like I was lugging the engine. It was the torque converter and transmission. I replaced the transmission and this disappeared. I now have better acceleration and better gas mileage.

Thanks for the feedback. Mine seems to do it while accelerating. It
also seems worse while going up a hill or if I put it in 1st and
accelerate. Does that sound familiar?

My V has only 40,000 kms (not sure how many miles that is) and I do
have one year left on the powertrain warrenty and I did buy from a
Honda dealer. I took it to the dealer and they can feel the vibration
but it is not frequent enough to pin point and they can't "see"
anything worng. I'm not getting any noise yet. One mechanic suggested
it may be the transmission but to keep driving it and see if it gets
worse.

I have a similar noise but I'd call it more like a once-
only "cling". I typically here it in the morning after backing up
out of the driveway.
My foot is on the brake lightly going back then i completely stop. I
shift into drive and proceed maybe 20 or 25 feet and then here
a cling from somewhere in the middle of the car underneath. I do NOT
here it again on that drive no matter what I do (stop in park,
reverse, accelerate, etc).
However, when i turn my car off and restart for the next trip, maybe
after leaving the car off for 5 minutes, and drive off about 20 feet,
cling again.
I'm worried because the clank appears to coincide with the the tranny
going into 2nd gear.
I only here it once, after restarting and proceeding at 5mi/hr, or
close to gear transition.
I thought it may be tranny, but since it only occurs once after
restarting the car (and not at all after that), it may just be
something resetting itself, like the ABS hyraulics.

I have the same noise on my '97V and have had it since I bought it new.  I took it to the dealer and they said it was normal....what ever that means.

Ive got a 2000 CRV EX AUTO and have the same exact vibration. its
the worst in 1st and 2nd gear and lessens in higher gears. No noise
but definately a vibration only in the steering and floor and only
when accellerating. Higher RPMS and more throttle make it worse.

It started at about 2,000 miles but was almost unnoticeable. It has
subtley gotten worse since and now my wife notices it which means I
really do have a problem. I have 14,500 and will be taking it in
soon.

My vibration only occurs once at the first gear transition.
It does not occur again during driving (or even after i park, sgift
in reverse, back in to drive, etc).

It only reaapears after i turn the car off and restart.
I accelerate and clang, the noise again.
The fact that my noise only appears after restart and accleration
amkes me think it is not tranny, but something that is reset.
Do the hyraulic ABS brakes reset after you resatrt the car.

I took in my CR-V for a oil change yesterday, and found out what my front end noise was from, not the transmission, but the hood was loose. The latch for the hood wasn't properly adjusted, but a few twist of the bolts, and dropping it a 1/4 inch made all the difference in the world.
