Water is getting into my 1997 CRV on the passenger side. I took it to a
Honda shop and after doing water test they saw where the water is getting
in the car, but in order to find out and possibly fix it from inside they
would need to take out the Blower, the AC system, etc. The mechanic
thinks that some one tried to fix the problem before, but I disagreed. I
bought the car new from the dealer in July of 97 (it had 200 miles on it).
I have never been on accident and therefore no repaid was done.

Do you guys think that the dealer may have done work on it before saleing
it to me? if not would Honda do such a bad job sealing the firewall?

The Honda shop wants to charge me about 300+ to try and diagnose the
problem and they wouldn't tell me if that is going to be enough to come
up with a solution. I am afraid that once I give them the OK to take out
the Blower, the AC, etc then they are going to continue to ask me for more
money to do this and that to fix the problem; how should I approach this
so that I do not get reaped off and also my CRV gets fixed.

thanks,

H

If it were me, i'd attempt to take apart what I was able to do (probably all
but the a/c coolant lines) to see if I could find the problem myself.
Depending on the size of the leak you may be able to also see light through
the area with enough things removed providing the surroundings are dark
enough. If you don't feel up to that, check with a local very reputable
body shop and speak with someone there and see what they might recommend for
you. Maybe they can do what the dealer can for cheaper. Just a couple of
thoughts.

Has the windshield been replaced? There
are a couple of plugs at the bottom of the windshield that can allow water into
the passenger side of the vehicle. A friend of mine had a ?91 Integra
that had a water leak on the passenger side and this is what they found. Keep
in mind that the civic spawned the Integra and CR-V.

Let us know what you find.

The windshield has not been replaced.

I have not taken my V to the dealer yet, so no news on that end.

Is the body behind the blower a sealed hollow area?

thanks,
H
