Hello everyone at Hondaunited,

I am looking to start my car ownership experience with a '92 - '93 EG series VTi. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

In Singapore we have plenty of these pocket rockets going at affordable prices, but unfortunately many of these cars are poorly maintained or heavily modified. I am very passionate about cars and now that I am finally given an opportunity to have one I am settling for no less than a high revving VTEC for a fun first experience.

Hence I need to do my homework now so I know what I am getting myself into.

1) Because the B16 VTEC can spin so high, what are the most delicate parts of the engine / transmission that I expect should need the most frequent replacement at this stage of the car's life? Please also do share warnings and experiences on the parts that break down most easily. How often do perishable parts like the timing belts need to be replaced?

2) Many Hondas here are heavily modified with various aftermarket parts; Spoon, Mugen mostly. Is there any advice you guys can give me on what I should look out for? Like a sure-fire indicator of heavy engine wear and tear or marks of good maintenance with regards to both the engine and the running gear?

3) Can you guys also share some more ownership experiences with me? I'd like to know how much the Civic VTi runs on a litre of fuel or how much fuel per 100km so I can gauge my costs and finances. I'd also like to know how much servicing Civic owners do on their cars, how regularly, how much it costs and what goes on during these routine or major services.

Thank you all for your time on reading this long post, I greatly appreciate any help you can give me.

(IMG:style_emoticons/default/beer.gif) Cheers and Thank you once again.

timing belt should be replaced every 90k miles other than that hondas are great because the engines are very reliable and the transmittions are strong. just make sure the oil is changed often like every 5000miles

i have to change mine every 3500 miles. and even then i have to refill it in between changes. that's the worse part about hondas. burns through oil.
