Hi guys, I thought I'd share this with you.
Since I'm living in the Gulf, having an A/C in the car is as
important has having in engine in it! No A/C no driving! I'm
talking Temp. Excess of 45 Degrees Celsius in the SHADE!
Anyhow, my CRX never proved to have a great A/C. As a matter of
fact, in such conditions, only Toyotas manage to get cool air
instantly! How, no clue, but they are famous here for it.
So last week, after a heavy street race with an S320 (triggered by
mere stupidity and one too many whiskeys) in which I proved that and
S320 may go from 100 to 160 KM/H too fast for my old CRX to catch, a
properly executed turn with a suspension like Honda's can take that
advantage out!
Anyhow, next day in the morning, I start my A/C and no response, so
what do I think? I must have forgotten to switch it off or something
a probably killed the compressor. Later, giving direct current to
the clutch of the compressor proved that there is nothing wrong with
it. So I took it to Honda Agency who said that I have a fault in the
A/C Module (it is the part which has the fan speed switch and temp
control on the dash board!) and it will cost me 500 US$ to get the
part which-on top of that- not available at the time!! After trying
several ways to obtain the part I gave up and then it hit me; why not
try to fix it? After all, I'm a computer engineer and I know it
could be fixed. And so it was the case, we took the electric circuit
apart and we tested it (with the help of a friend and proper electric
equipment) and alas, it was a stupid resistor and the cost was about
10 US$!!!
So you guys out there, if it happens to you, locate a good
electronics maintenance shop next to you and take it to them, you
will be surprised how little it will cost!
ciao....
