I have had 2 honda's prior and never needed the warranty. Because
this is a newly designed CRV (engine, even auto tranny i thought)
i thought i reconsider the xtended warranty of 100k/7years.

I know exactly where you are coming from. Ive had 4 previous hondas
(all 5 speeds) and never needed any extended warranty and didnt get
one with my 00 CRV EX auto.

Looking back I probably should have and will probably shop for one
that has a "money back if you dont use it" clause before the regular
warranty is out.

The auto tranny worries me as does the rear differential. If either
of them go its going to be a huge bill.

considering yours is an auto and the first year of production, I
think Id go with one. But shop around as you may find one cheaper
than what the dealer offeres. Remember the warranty they are
offering is negotiable too. or should be.

Never owned a HONDA before and I primarily bought it for it's legendary
reliability.

The "Newness" of the CRV did frighten me though so I purchased the 100/7
year plan just to be sure.

I agree with Roenick. I have a 97' and have just had $1150 of work
done on it. That just about pays for the extended warranty. Maybe its
just that I'm not the kind of guy to attempt major auto repairs on my
own. If anything else breaks in the next 16K, then it will _really_ have
been worth it!

How much did they want to charge you for the warranty and is it a 5 or
7 year 100k ...

My 2002 EX is due to arrive next week. I'm shopping for a warranty.
The Honda dealer will give me a 7/75K for $935. (I live very close
to work so the mileage is right because I know I would not hit 100K
miles in 7 years). The company websites I've been looking at for
comparison are:
WarrantyDirect
1SourceAutowarranty
Warrantybynet

Does anyone have any advice one way or another about these companies
and their policies? Any other good companies to look at? What about
the policies that you get the full amount returned if you don't use
it? I haven't found any of these......

Many thanks to all. Can't wait to get the vehicle and be
an "official" member of this group!

I paid $1295 for my 100K/7-year HONDA warranty (through HONDA) and would
have gone for a longer term if this were available. This mileage is about
what I'm expecting to put on the car in 7-years time BUT even if I were
expecting less miles would still spring the extra bucks and go for 100K
miles for the following reasons:

1. Seven years is a very long time. Do you have an iron-clad guarantee that
you will still be at this close-to-home job for the next seven years? Don't
want to bust your bubble but the company I was going to retire from
(Lockheed-Martin) shut the plant doors in 1997 after I had been there 14
years!

2. What happens if you should decide to sell in several years? The extra
miles in the warranty should make your car more attractive to the purchaser.
I plan on running my EX "Into the ground" but who REALLY knows????

3. Your EX will cost close to $25,000 by the time your done. The longer
warranty costs an extra $1.00 a week over the next 7 years. An extra $300
doesn't sound all that onerous.

4. As to buying the warranty from someone other than Honda. Will they still
be around in a few years?. I'm pretty sure that I could have gotten a better
deal somewhere else BUT I didn't want the aggravation of having to get
authorization & reimbursement from a third party. I HATE to get in the
middle of a "PISSING CONTEST" between the insurance company and dealer!

This is ALL my opinion but hey, you asked for it ;-)

Hope you enjoy your new EX. It's GREAT!!!!

Regards,

I have read many variations to warranty term / mileage from Honda care. I was
sold a 5 year / 100000 mi extended for 1050.00 also a 350.00 GAP insurance that
I think was inappropriate all these differences make me say Hmmmmm.

Does anyone have the real deal on all these conflicting numbers and quotes !

A friend's father recently died, guess what?, the insurance policy was void.
They went out of business years ago, a devastating situation for the family.
He also bought what he thought was an excellent long-term policy to cover
burial expenses at a cheap price too, you guess it they went out of business
too.
Bet both companies are operating under new and different names presently,
wonder how many times they have gone out of business?
Something tells me the same company/broker sold him both policies, a family
friend that has previously died!!

Service contracts are the same, you need to check their validity from time
to time BEFORE they vanish into obscurity.

Picked up my Eternal blue EX/auto on Friday.
I got the car for 22740 with Security alarm and front mud guards
included.
I also decided on the 7yr/100mi extended warranted directly from Honda
for $1090.
