Does anybody installed an Engine Block Heater for their "V" for Faster
starts and shorter warm-up time in cold weather?

A block heater is standard equipment in these parts. It hits
-40 and colder in the dead of winter, and a block heater is pretty much
essential. If it rarely gets colder than -20 where you live, then I would
say you could do without one.

Thanks for the info. Rod, I too was contemplating installing a block heater for trips to the north.  I don't think I'll visit when it gets anywhere near -20 degrees.  We hit 83 degrees a record for South Carolina two days ago.  Guess you could say us Southerners avoid the cold, Cleveland 10 degrees snowing in April was as cold as I care to experience

Yeah, it gets pretty cold here, but it's a dry cold. I've experienced -51
degrees, and that's without the windchill factor. It is amazing what happens
at those low temperatures, especially to vehicles, especially when your
antifreeze is only good to -40. Even some thermometers freeze.

Our summers are very nice, however. Normally highs are in the 80's,
hottest I've seen is 106. but that's a dry heat.

My CR-V has not yet seen these extreme temperatures, just -42 for a
low and about 95 for a high, but it handles it like a charm. An amazing
vehicle, really.

Hey Dave, I live in Saskatchewan, Land of the Living Skies (whoever thought
up that motto?) I currently live in Saskatoon, the -51 happened when I
was living in Prince Albert. I am surprised to still have the @home.com
service still running, but have my ass covered if it goes down - then I'll
be on @shaw.ca , who just happens to be my cable ISP. I like the sound
of @home.com much better. How about you?

my "V" starts very fast and warms very fast w/out the
use of a block heater. It lives in the heart of
Indiana winters,

It does not come "standard", but -- can be purchased from any Honda
dealer.

How do you mean?

Most folks who live in cold climates have engine block heaters. Just
about anything with a diesel engine has a block heater.

If Honda offers it as an accessory, why wouldn't it be safe?

I suppose, as much as anything, I curious as to why you asked about it,
and then asked if it was safe.

I'm also curious as to why you would need one, considering that you are
in the DC area. Yes, it gets cold there in the winter -- I'm about in
the same climate path, but -- there has never been an occasion where my
Honda wouldn't start because it was too cold.

Just my $0.02

would not open but when you warm-up for about a couple of minutes and press
the botton again it will open. I change the battery & everything but does
the same thing.

Can you help me!!! Any suggestions???
