Hello, I have a 2000 Civic EX, and want to change the drums to disc brakes. Thing is, I don't want to spend $900 on a stupid AEM conversion kit. I'm thinkin more along the lines of taking a set-up off another car. Has anyone ever done this, and does anyone have any tips for me? THanks, Josh

i'm not gonna say that what you'd like to do hasn't been done, but i've never heard of it for a honda, b/c of the unique setup of front and rear brakes. if it's been done at all, it should be done from the same 'make' of vehicle. you don't want to mess with application problems of fitment w/different makes and models. to me, yeah, that AEM kit is expensive but you know it WORKS. IMO, slapping something on like brakes that you're not sure would work well and haven't been wear-tested with your application is just waitin' for problems... that is if they fit at all. one can fudge on an engine, or maybe even a tranny. but brakes? the risks of an untested set on your application just don't seem worth it.

also, rear disc brakes, even on the same car, are usually not the same size as front ones and don't have all the same mechanical working parts.

Thanks for the response. The Civic Si has 4 wheel disc brakes if I'm not mistaken. It seems like that would be an easy job if i could find a 2000 Si, don't u think? I understand what ur saying, though, brakes are nothing to mess with. And I do know about the different fitment, also, you got the e-brake to think about!
