I have a 2001 s2000. I saw a movie this summer where a Hond racer referred to the practice of 'double clutching' What is this practice? An ignorant speed demon wants to know.

Double clutching is... Engaging the cluch to bring the car out of gear into nuetral, releasing, then reengaging to put the car into gear.

Thanks. So the speed value of this process would be in revving up the engine while in neutral between gears, yes? I wonder what this would be like in the high end revs (where the power is). Can you damage the VTEC engine in this way?

I'm really not to sure. I was under the impression that double clutching was used by high performance race vehicles whos transmission required double clutching. I don't think it would hurt a VTEC engine but I don't see the point I think it would take longer and actually slow you down. Maybe not I'm not sure. I'll see what I can find out. Let me know what you hear.

Thanks dslayer. Yeah, I'm trying to think alot of this stuff through so I don't ruin my car. There's another s2000 site with lots if info. You might want to check that out. About Vin Diesel, he's a TRIP. You should catch him in 'Pitch Black' at yourlocal VCR store. WoW!

Here's the info I've gathered. Double clutching must be used by cars with an unsyncronized transmission. It shouldn't hurt any car to do it but I don't think it will help. Think of it this way....You're at the line ready to go. First gear, the clutch is in VVROOM you rev it up. The flag drops and your off. Now it's time to shift. You can either engage the clutch, shift, let it off and floor it or engage, shift to neutral, let off the clutch, hit the gas, let off the gas, push the clutch, shift, and floor it. If you can double clutch in the same amount of time then just shifting normally then it may be beneficial but I figure the quicker you get into gear the quicker you go. As far as the fast and the furious it is, after all, just a movie. It may have some significance or may have just been a good line. The movie was fairly true to life but at the same time there were some unbelievable scenes.
