Found a local NAPA dealer that does service work for a lot less than
the local Honda dealers. I had them convert the a/c to R134a (and
also put in a new dryer) and also set the valve lash. Looks like the
only things left to do is to change the coolant and brake fluid.
In the meantime, I have really been enjoying the little del Sol (93 S
with automatic, getting slightly over 33 mpg). I have more fun
driving this than my "other toy" which was well into six figures. A
LOT better gas mileage and not nearly as much to run per
mile...maintenance and depreciation can get mighty expensive, and my
other toy just may be put up for sale soon. I can drive the little
Honda with virtually no notice from anyone, especially the
police.....and the rear window goes down!
I have had a lot of "great cars"....mostly targas. Most have been
very expensive to own, and since I am not wealthy, cost has always
been a concern. The little del Sol was meant to be just a fun car for
everyday use, but it has certainly now become my ride of choice (in
spite of that funny front-wheel drive, an automatic and not a lot of
power).
What a great car, for about the price of a tune-up on the prancing horse.
