I have a 93 acura legend. It went through quite a few major
repairs. Particularly, this last one. Here is the run down history
of repairs on this car.
About 2 years ago, i've noticed my dashboard light is dim. It got
to a point, I had a tough time starting my car. Always had to turn
the ignition twice to make it start. Finally, the dashboard lights
were dimming and it started to do this while I was in heavy
traffic. Made it safely to Sears, where it would start but not stay
idle. Thinking it was the battery, asked the mechanic to check the
battery. Already he said no. It wasn't the battery. Turned out to
be the ignition switch. Had my cousin replaced the switch and
everything worked fine. I then had to change my radiator (coolant
leaking)and the braking system (all 4). To keep costs down, I asked
the mechanic to change what is necessary (hoses were left
untouched). Big mistake, I'll tell you this later on. Late last
year, the ABS light started to show up, then my A/C and fan light
went off. I got worried. Right in the middle of traffic, the temp
guage started to rise. Thinking my car was overheating, my radiator
was filled with coolant. Nothing was leaking that was the obvious.
Decided to take my car to the dealer. The dealer said the ignition
switch wires were loose which cause all the lights to go on/off.
Came out spending $300. Sometime Mid February, overheated in
traffice. Put in water and drove off. All is well. It came back
again. Decided to take it to Goodyear. Found the problem. The
remaining 2 small hoses that was never replaced was the cause. It
was leaking. That made me happy. Although, 5 minutes close to
home, the temp gauge started to rise even higher this time. Brought
my car back to goodyear and informed me that they found the leak.
They had to change the water pump at the same time, timing belt was
to be changed. Then goodyear called and recommend I change the
camshaft. So i had them changed. A week without a car was such an
inconvenience. Picked up my car, turned on my A/C and radio. Was
happy to drive off. Oh but wait. While I was in traffic, the temp
guage was rising. Drive off into one of them neighborhoods, turned
off my car. Waited for 10 minutes, turned it back on, the temp
guage went on. I remember a friend telling me to turn on the
heater, this will bring the temperature to go down. Brought it back
to goodyear, the mechanic was baffled to see me back so soon. He
said they changed the thermostat and it wasn't doing the problem.
He said he will open it up. Hasn't been overheating since then.
Left goodyear spending $1000. 2 weeks later, I noticed my dashboard
light is getting dimmer, which is not the norm. Brought it to
goodyear giving them the symptoms and they could not identify the
problem. They suggest I look for a mechanic that does electrical.
What bummers. I don't think its the battery, cause that would mean
it would not start. I notice its displaying the same symptoms right
before I had my ignition switch replaced. It doesn't make any
difference if I were to adjust the dimmer to make it brighter, cause
my clock light has no effect at all.
Please reply what would be the fix.
