I was just wondering what the average life of front brakes most crv owners
have experenced. Seems that mine need the pads replaced, I was dissapointed
in the 28 k that I have on the vehicle. I bought my crv used about 5 months
ago so I wasn't sure how the original driver drove the vehicle. I just
thought this seemed very low. I realize that driving conditions will play a
factor in this but was wondering what most owners have gotten out of theirs?
And also wondering what the dealer may have charged to replace the pads also.

i got my brakes changed at my 30k mile check up.. so i guess that is about
normal.. disappointing to me too, but my brakes had been squeaking a lot for
the last couple thousand miles.. i was charged around $170 i think at the
santa ana honda dealer in southern california..

A big thing with the CRV brakes is not to wash them while they are
HOT............. if you take your car to the car wash and wash the car with a
high pressure hose it warps the brakes............ I found this out the hard
way............ also make sure you have your rotors turned
regularly............this also has alot to do with it........... and if you
all have auto instead of 5 speeds you will use your brakes alot more than
normal

I have 63,000mi on a '98 EX w/ 30% left on the pads. I do a fair amount
of highway driving. The tires are holding up well too. Hope this run of
good luck conrinues!

Hi,

I replaced mine around 36K or so. It still had some life left but I figured
to change early rather than late. At 28K, it is a bit on the early side but
the previous driver may have been someone who 'ride' the brakes too much.
It really varies from driver to driver.

The local Honda dealer wants $127 for the whole job, which includes turning
the rotors. Its worth the price as anything else other than OEM Honda pads
will squeak, and that will drive you nuts!

Don't go with Allied Signal pads or Midas ones...they may last longer but
will squeak.

Good luck,
Bing
