Hi there, I'm a newbie to the list. Just bought a CRV (NEW car but
Old model).

The CRV comes with a tiny unit where there are buttons to lock and
unlock the car and a button to release the tail window/boot, but not
an alarm. Just wondering if there is any aftermarket Alarm system
that would fit the CRV, that would fit and work side by side with the
current locking unit. Any feedback would be good.

Thanks in advance..

Cheers
Tom

Honda makes a unit that "plugs in" to your CR-V.

It has a remote unit like the one that you currently have. However, the
remote units are not interchangeable, so you will get new remotes with
the alarm system.

Tom

You can find the alarm here. http://www.handaaccessories.com/crv.html  Specifically http://www.handaaccessories.com/crvelect01.html for the pricing (don't know what the shipping would be to Austraila) and http://www.handaaccessories.com/crv/crvsecmain.pdf for the installation instructions. As I hate car $tealers, I have dealt many times with http://www.hparts.com/ for parts as well.

There may be equivalent websites/stores down under that offer Honda equipment at a discounted price, so you may which to check around instead of trying to deal with the hassle of international shipping.

hey Tom,
The day I got my V (a reconditioned Japanese import '98 model) I took it to
an accessory shop which fitted a full aftermarket Epsilon alarm system with
immobiliser. They had no problems wiring the door lock/unlock and the boot
release into the new remote, though the boot release now requires pressing
two of the three remote buttons simultaneously which is a bit of a hassle.
Here in Malaysia the whole thing cost me roughly $500 Aussie (that's around
USD250 for the rest of you) including installation.

cheers;

Dear Tom:
We recommend you forget the alarms and obtain the new PowerLock described
below. No one pays any attention to alarms but if someone opens the door on
the PowerLock, the horn sounds and people will look to see if someone is
honking at them. Also the car can only be stolen by towing.

POWERLOCK

Keep your car! PowerLock is a solid-state auto security system guaranteed to
prevent any vehicle from being hot-wired and driven. It attaches permanently
to the vehicles starter motor and cannot be defeated by cutting or jumping
the ignition wires. It also disables the fuel pump so the car cannot be
started by pushing. The only way the car can be stolen is by towing. If your
car is towed or otherwise stolen, Powerlock pays your deductible.

The system is activated by an electronic, coded key pad installed under the
dashboard, which controls the system. A special mode allows for temporary
disabling the system for parking attendants, auto repairs, or car washes.

The retail price is $249.00 (plus installation, if not self installed) AND
OUR MEMBER PRICE IS $225.00 PLUS $12.00 SHIPPING. California residents, add
8% sales tax.

If you have any questions, or special requirements, please telephone us at
(310) 822-6161 between 10:00 am and 5:00 pm, Monday through Friday, Pacific
Standard Time.
