Hello fellow CR-V owners! Mabye someone can help. I have a 1997 CR-V 4wd
with ABS , and approx. 25,000 miles. I recently started {about 2 months ago}
hearing a creaking noise coming from the front end when applying the brakes .
Applying the brakes pretty hard but not hard enough to activate the ABS. The
dealer could find nothing wrong , but it still makes the noise! Please help!
Thanks Greg

Okay, firstly, how are your brake pads? Assuming that the dealer checked
that, I'm thinking its something else.

Ask the dealer to check the lower control arms (A-arms). I've known that to
be the cause of some knocking and replacement is the only way to go....quick
before your warranty runs out!

What happens if you bounce the front of the car by pushing down on the
bumper? Does it still squeak?

It doesn't make the noise. I've also heard it just by shifting the
transmission into reverse. I wonder if its the engine mounts???

Then if you rock the car with the trans in park, it should make the engine
rock back and forth on the mounts causing the noise. It's easy to do this
with the hood open that way you can watch the motor and listen for the noise
to try and pin point it's location.

Well, the dealer identified the problem as a motor mount. A new one
will be here tomorrow. Problem solved...

Actually, it wasn't a motor mount. (The dealer figured it out after
they installed a new motor mount and the problem was still there!)
The problem is actually a transmission mount. (Transmounting -
rubber, Honda Part# 50805-59A-982) The part is on national backorder,
whatever that means. Apparently other CRV2002 owners are having the
same problem.

The problem is easily identified when you shift the transmission into
reverse (automatic). You can hear some sort of creaking noise.

I will post updates when the part comes in and is installed...

It is probably a coinicidence that the squeaking started after the rain storm. A lube job at your next oil change may get rid of the squeaks as it refills the grease boots. Check to see if any of your grease boots are cracked and would allow the water splash to wash out the grease. You can also try to spray some silicone or Slick50 on the bottom of the spring perches so that the springs can rotate without making the scrunching sound. Good Luck!!

Thanks acurael03. My Acura dealer checked it out today and said everything is OK, so I won't worry about the creaking. At the next oil change, I'll ask them to check the grease boots at the next oil change.
