In comparing the Forester to the CR-V, looks like the Forester comes
out ahead by just a bit. It has more horse power. I've heard
they're 'ugly' however. We're heading into town to test drive the
two today. Anybody have any thoughts regarding the Forester?

I think muts of us here ar biased towards the CRV. I
am sure the Forester is a grand vechicle, but it is
still not a CRV (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

I think that it may have more horses, but it also may weigh more which makes the extra juice a waste of gas. IMHO, the Honda CRV beats the heck out of any of the Foresters or Outbacks. In exterior looks, excellent interior space and design, and don't forget the ever important ground clearance.
 
  In the long run, the Forester just doesn't "turn my crank" like the CRV does. The Subaru just looks a bit "dowdy" and "chunky" to me.
