I just bought a '04 Accord a month ago. Last week, I tried to turn on the AC but it wouldn't go on. After taking the car to the dealership, they told me that the condenser has been punctured possibly by a rock or road debris and this is not covered by the manufacturer warranty and will cost $800 to repair it. They want me to contact my insurance company to see if they would cover it. I don't know much about condensers. Can anyone tell me whether this kind problem is common? Or it's just an unfortunate mishap? Thanks Shannon

It is not a car problem...it is a rock problem. The condensor is at ground zero...literally. It is the first thing behind the grill. It will take the bulk of road debris head on. I have gone through 2 condensors on my 92 LX. Your insurance co may pay for it, subject to your deductible, if they consider it an accident. You may get points depending on your state too. So be careful. It is an unfortunate mishap, not uncommon though. Your dealer is unfortunately correct. Unless you can prove it was a mfr defect (unlikely) $800 is way too high though. Part should be about $200-$300 plus about 2+ hrs labor (~$200), so $4-500. I would just find an AC contractor and have them fix it. It is not rocket science. Paul
