It is not a car problem...it is a rock problem. The condensor is at ground
zero...literally. It is the first thing behind the grill. It will take the
bulk of road debris head on. I have gone through 2 condensors on my 92 LX.
Your insurance co may pay for it, subject to your deductible, if they
consider it an accident. You may get points depending on your state too. So
be careful.
It is an unfortunate mishap, not uncommon though.
Your dealer is unfortunately correct. Unless you can prove it was a mfr
defect (unlikely) $800 is way too high though. Part should be about
$200-$300 plus about 2+ hrs labor (~$200), so $4-500. I would just find an
AC contractor and have them fix it. It is not rocket science.
