has anyone here dealt with coilovers or lowering springs? I am wanting to lower my car, but want to be able to raise it a little so my tires dont rub when i have 2 people in the back. Any advice/info?

I have the Neuspeed Sport lowering springs on my '95 coupe with stock shocks and stock wheel/tire sizes. I have no problem wih the rear rubbing with two people in the back. Unloaded, looking from the side, there is about 1/2" gap in front and about 3/4" gap in back. I did some testing with 195/50-15 tires and still had no problem, but they did take up more room. Whether you have problems depends on what tire/wheel combo you are running and how far you want to drop it. I belive Nuespeed claims a 1.8" drop up front and a 1.6" drop in back for these springs. Doug.

I prefer coilovers myself. I had some 2.25" lowering spring on my hatchback and that just caused problems. So I switched to coilovers and that seemed to fix my problems. The thing I like about the coilovers is that I can lift the car about 4 inches when the tow truck gets there. I put a body kit on it and it's now 1.5 inches from the ground, so thanks to the coils, I can lift it. It takes me awhile to lift it, but that's an advantage you don't have with lowerings spring. I would say spend more money and get the coilovers.

Thanks, i def would rather get coilovers, as long as there's no problems with them. Theyjust make more sense!

i use a set of gold line lowering springs on my 94 civic coupe 2.5" drop all the way around, and i have 17" rims with 40 seroes tires and have no rubbing problems at all, i used coil overs and the fact than i could lift my car up with them didnt matter to me since i lost so much ride quality, the lower you compress the spring on a coil over the tighter and rougher your suspension gets, so to me its lowering springs all the way

Well the problem is, when i got my new rims- 17" konig, i had my old tires in my trunk & back seat, & a friend in the back. It began rubbing when i'd hit a bump or took a turn, only on the passenger side! Wierd, I know. So what i want to be able to do is lower it when by myself or have a passenger, & have the option to raise it if i have 2 or more in the back, which is every once in a while. Was it very difficult to adjust the coilovers? Is it something i can do in a few minutes in a parking lot? Also, i wonder if I can do anything to the wheel-well to stop it from rubbing.

It's somewhat difficult to adjust the coilovers. I have the Maxspeed's that require two hands to lift. I know of some that only require one hand to lift. It's not something that you can do in a few minutes in a parking lot though. I only do it when I have about 45 minutes to wait around for a tow truck. The 45 minutes only includes the front springs though. As for the rubbing, I had the same problem when I wanted to drop my Civic 4 inches. I had to go to a body shop where they cut a hole on the inside of the wheel well. It was worth the trouble cause I finally got my drop as low as I wanted it. As for the comfort in the ride. I saw no difference in the lowering springs and the coilovers. On Sun, 13 Oct 2002 03:43:04 EDT

Ok, cool, thanks 4 the info. Do u have to take the tire off or what?! What could possibly take so long about it? When they cut a hole in the wheel-well, doesnt that allow water & dirt (& snow in my sake) to fly up in the car?! Those wheel wells are there for a reason!

You don't have to take off the tire, but it makes things a lot easier. You need all the space you can get. The hole was cut, but it was welded shut again. It's hard to explain, but it worked. They just rounded it out more to make the tire go inside better and not scrape. On Mon, 14 Oct 2002 01:26:45 EDT

I know what I'm talking about fully.  You are appearently the one that doesn't know what you are talking about.  Air ride kits=shit handling.  Show me one car in the whole world that races or does any kind of performance oriented driving with an air ride kit.  That really is funny that you have the balls to say I don't know what I'm talking about.  Why don't you back that up with some facts...

Here we go with some assuming asshole.  I'm 25, I have had several modified cars.  A Jackson Racing blown civic, and accord and now a turbo all-wheel-drive eclipse.  You have no clue who you are talking too or what you are talking about.  Your car might handle ok, but I would bet anything that it can't out handle an equivalent car with performance springs and adjustable struts.  Sorry buddy.  Now I think you are the one that is the little kid.  Based on these facts you are either 17-20 or a complete fucking loser.  You are probably also from california or the west coast.  Air-ride kits are for immature little rice boys like yourself or loser ass old guys.  Either way you look like a fucking idiot making your piece of shit cars go up and down over and over again.  Just know that when you have the remote control in your hand, most of the people(not all, but most) around you are thinking "this kid is a fucking loser for buying that shit, I would race him for any amount of money this sucker could put up."  Just know that when you are playing with your joystick.  Wanna race an eclipse?

is there any way to argue maturely, without using racial/ethnic stereotypes or without being homophobic? its not helping your argument at all to throw those terms around... its hardly conceivable to think of someone being "gay" because they have air suspension on their car... similarly talking about "rice" boys... make your case, as you stated, on facts, present your experiences... but please don't be homophobic or racist... sorry to sound so paternalistic (really showing my age here) marcus
