I'm just about to buy a CR-V '99. I noticed the cigarette power
outlet in front is not working. It has never been used (the previous
driver doesn't smoke and he has never used it for anyhting). It's not
that it doesn't work per se, it doesn't even stay-in. When i push it
it comes back (it doesn't lock into position)

The lighter piece seems a bit lose. Is it possible that came like
that for security reasons. The driver was asked at the dealer whether
he smoked or not at the time of buying the car.

Is there any adapter to make it work?

I'm a smoker, but my main reason for using it would be to charge my
cell and laptop

Thank you

I have a '98 EX and it doesn't have a lighter. Only two 12VDC power outlets,
one in front and one in the rear cargo area.

try holding it in. It may just be the heating element that is messed up and
the outlet could have power just the removable lighter itself is not
working. Sometimes they either stick in so they'll never pop out and will
get to melting temps or sometimes they will not stay in at all, however if
you hold it in for a 30sec to a minute it will glow red as its supposed to.
if all else fails, bring your cell charger to the dealer and see if it
lights up when you plug it in.

Thanks for the replies. I just talked to the owner, who just talked
to Honda, and they told him the burning element was taken out as he
specified he didn't smoke. I found that so stupid, why they don't
just leave it in no matter what. At least he certified that the power
is working perfectly.

Does anyone if i can add the burning element back?...probably is not
worth the hassle , right?

all you need is a new lighter, the removable piece.  That can be purchased from the dealer if it's that important to you.  Or you can get a universal from any auto parts store.
