Hello, Does anyone know of any problems with owning a Canadian Honda in the States aside from the speedo and odometer being in kilometers? This vehicle is a 1991 Civix DX hatchback that I'm thinking of buying for my daughter as a first car. Would anyone know if it is possible to swap out the Canadian speedo for a US speedo and have the milage certified? Any comments would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Steve

I would think it would just be a matter of replacing the gauge face. I mean, in the US, we have both miles and kilometers on out gauges, so it would only make sense to me that you should just be able to stick a new gauge kit on there (which would be cool anyway, get white gauges or something), and there shouldn't really be any issues with anything else! Someone correct me if I'm wrong. -Squash

That would make sense except that the it would still measure the mileage in kilometers and not miles. The whole speedo needs to be swapped out with a US version. As far as certifying the mileage, I figure a Honda dealer could do that but it would probably cost a pretty penny...........

Well if you want the mileage certified for whatever reason then just goto a Honda Dealership and pay the pretty penny to get all the work done you want.  That way you can have all the paperwork you want, go thru all the processes ect.  If it were me, I would say screw mileage certification until you get to a point you want to sell the car and just find a local shop to do the whole speed thing.  My understanding is, that certification just increases the value of the car which is pointless until you want to sell.   Brad
