Hi, I am new to the group and I dont yet have a CR-V though clearly I'm
considering one.
My question concerns occasional camping. We presently own a VW
Westfalia which is wonderful for camping but low on power , poor on a/c.
Its a third vehicle so it doesnt see much use, mostly going to the hardware
store. The big plus is you get to sleep inside.
How well could the CR-V work for that? Will the rear seat come out and
leave enough room for an inflatable mattress, with the rear door open?
I saw an article for a Pontiac Aztek showing an add-on tent for the rear .
Has anybody done anything similar with the Honda?
Obviously the CR-V has plenty of room to carry a tent and camping gear but I
am looking for a small step beyond that.
Any ideas would be appreciated, Thanks Steve Cotsford

I was looking at the Aztek too, but it has to prove it's mechanical
reliability first...

The back seats of the CR-V lay flat, so if there's just two in the vehicle,
there's more than enough room for gear. The seats are split, so even 3 ppl
and gear works well. We have yet to sleep in the back of ours, but I plan
too this fall. I don't know that a full size air matress would fit, but a
foam pad is comfortable and would fit better (or cut to fit).

We camp all the time with our CRV. We have a cargo carrier that bolts to
the factory rack and we have a large dog. Although we are tightly packed
everything seems to always fit. Our EX has the fold back pop-up back seats
that form to a bed. We discovered that if you fold the front seats back to
meet the back, you have one large bed - no need for mattress! It was
surprisingly comfortable. The CRV is a great camping vehicle.

It could be done - the seats fold down. The back seats also tilt back.
Personally, I wouldn't do it - perhaps the Honda Odyssey would be more
to your liking!
