Hi!
I have a 98 LX that saw a lot of off-road rallye work it's first year in the forests of Ontario, and since then it has been from San Francisco to the Grand Canyon, 90 MPH all the way thru the mountains; I drive it hard... 168K on it now.
3 weeks ago I got the engine check, so I plugged in the OBD box and got a Cyl 4 Misfire message. Time for new wires anyways, so I replaced the plugs/wires/cap/rotor. Next day, same prob, so I replaced the fuel filter and cleaned out the injectors, swapping cyl 1 and 4.
Same again next day, and I noticed it was idling ruff. Popped the wires, 4 made no diff and the others caused it to nearly die; uh-oh, valve problem! But if I drove it, it still ran great, with no noticeable power lose...
Pulled the head and found that theleft exhaust valve on cyl 4 had a nice groove burned in it! When I tried to get a replacement in the Bay Area I wuz told that there has not yet been a request via the dealer parts network for a CR-V valve! I had to be the first 8~(
Got one in two days, had the head trued, adjusted all the rockers, replaced all of the seals (lots) and put in a new timing belt while I was there; water pump looks OK.
Anybody else had a burned valve?
