Driving down the M3 a few days back, blazing sunshine and The Who
(Wont get fooled again) on the CD player...... perfect !!!
Whining noise coming from somewhere and increasing very quickly in
pitch, turned down music to have a listen. Looked in the rear view
mirror to see a stream of smoke. Stuck gearbox into neutral and
coasted into hard shoulder. Lifted bonnet and smoke still coming
from engine bay. Relief to see that the alternator belt was smoking
and not the engine. Easy, i thought, just replace the belt then no
problem. RAC man turned up eventually and i showed problem. He
sighed and asked me question.
"what do you think caused the belt to break" ... he exclaimed !!!
"Fatigue" .... i retorted !!!
"Bollox" .... he replied !!!
Smug expression from Mr RAC followed as he put on plastic glove and
proceeded to explore the depths of the engine bay.
"Thought so" was his next exclamation closely followed by the bad
news ...... "Air con pump seized" !!!
Oh Oh was my reply .... sounds expensive
"Too right matey .... about ?1000 for pump then a re-gas on top @
?250 !!!
"Double bollox was my reply"
Anyone here got a spare for a J reg Mk 4 ...... please
Kind regards and thanks in advance
Andy
