OK.
I've heard lot's of talk about how the 5th gear in a CR-V manual spins about 500 RPM higher than 4th gear in a manual (relatively speaking, of course).
Questions:
1. it this true?
2. Would the gas mileage be the same between a manual and an automatic if they were both traveling for 4 hours @ 85MPH (this is a serious question!)
3. Can one modify his manual transmission (in a shop) so that his 5th gear wouldn't "rev" higher than 4th gear in a  manual.

Maybe using differnnt sze tire? I know if you were really good or had the
money you could install a different 5th gear in the tranny, but I'm sure
it's expensive for the part. I'd leave it be.

Take care,
David

David is right with the tire size and RPM. If you go with 215/70/15 size
tires, you'll be able to reduce your rpm by about 2% at 60mph.

So I guess modifying the tranny is out of the question, because of cost,
huh? Is that a major thing, to modify the tranny?

Any modification of tire size, to compensate for speed of engine, is also
going to affect the speed shown on the speedometer! On mine, it is dead
accurate up to 80 MPH, which is as far as I've checked it so far.
