Hi
I've recently found that changing from 4th to 5th gear above 5000rpm
it is dificult to select 5th and sometimes grinds (Only in this gear
change).
(Sorry JDM SiR 2.2 VTec)
It's only done 60,000 miles and I've just paid out for the 60k major
service. Problem was happening before this! so the 2 are not
related.
Anyone come accross this before or know what it is?
Any help would be great.
Thanks
Alex

Hi there,
I have a JDM SiR 2.2 VTEC (1992, 66k) and the syncro on 4th to 5th
gear changes has always been a bit rough, especially at high revs. It
just grinds though, I don't remember it being a problem to get it
into gear. I've had the car five years without it getting any worse,
if that helps at all!
Chris.

Cheers mate. Good to know that it is a problem that I don't have to
spend out on to put right (well for 5 years anyway!).
You're right it does just grind, along with my teeth everytime I
change above 5000 rpm (4th to 5th only). I'm trying to perfect the
technique of shifting just below 5000rpm without loosing too much
pace.
I was worried, because I am going to Santapod with my Dad on the
21st June (Jap Performance weekend) to give him 3 races (Scooby v's
Lude) and I didn't know if I would leave my gearbox all over the
track.
Take it easy.
If anyone else has any input all is welcome.
Alex
