The manual says to change the tranny fluid at the 30K mile mark..
even on a manual transmission? Could this be some sort of error?

Why would it be? I had a Chev Cavalier that only recommended every 75k, but
needed it every 25-30k. I'd follow the book-sounds reasonable.

Yes, especially the first time, the shavings from early wear
are mostly all eliminated that way... after the first 30K
maybe I will go longer...

Am I missing something here? I looked in my manual and there is no mention
of transmission fluid change at 30K. Infact there is no mention of anything
at 30K.

OK, I'm slightly mistaken. The "Severe" schedule calls for a tranny
fluid change at 30K miles. Under the "Normal" driving schedule,
tranny fluid changes are not called for.

Oops! My mistake. So, as I don't drive my CRV under "severe"
conditions, changing the manual tranny fluid is not required.

But of course the dealer lists this fluid change for their 30K mile
service as well as a valve adjustment, which explains the high cost
290.00 (US) dollars.

usually what i would do, if i was to do the "regular service" intervals and wanted to get the work done but a cheaper price, go to the dealer and ask for an itemized printout of all parts and labor charges. they'll give it. there's usually a lot of extra stuff you don't need. you can save $$ one of two ways i know: just tell the dealer you don't want certain issues addressed (i.e., mark them off/cross them out), and the other way is (if you know a good 'other place' to get it done) take your list to that place and ask what each specific task on the list would cost and compare prices. hope this helps.
