I own a 2005 honda odyssey that I was gifted by a brother with 3,600 miles on it. my car starts fine and will run for up 5 miles and then lose power. It never stalls just won't move. If I shut it off and immediately restart it, it will run fine again for another 5 miles and so on. When I depress the gas, the car hesitates severely, backfires a few times. If I back off the gas at times I can usually accelerate very slowly and once I get up to speed it is ok. any thought?

Hi Kevins,
when was the last time it was tuned up?

How about the coils? (If it look burnt and cracked I'm sure that is the problem.)

Hope this helps.

CHRIST ALL MIGHTY. this vehicle has 3600 miles on it. its still covered by factory warranty. Take it in and have a TRUE mechanic check it out. It sounds as if the engine was ridden quite hard for those 3600 miles and is having problems. To me it sounds like the fuel injectors are giving you problems. In some instances a oxygen sensor will do the same thing but unlikely. I would take it in and have them drive it and see if they can pinpoint a problematic cause to the issue. My car would stall out but it was due to a faulty ignition switch which would trigger the anti theft mechanism. the green key would start to flash and the engine would shut off and cost to a stop.
