Due to the party crashing of our first child, now a delightful 9
month old, my hubby and I are considering trading in my 2003 Accord
for an Odyssey. My parents own a 2002, my sister and BIL just bought
a 2002, and all seem quite happy.
We found one with all the features we want at a far-off dealer. The
walk-around revealed that the wheels are in great shape, the interior
is in great shape, no unruly orders and they verified all the
features listed. A call to Honda verified that the transmission
recall had been fixed, and at the same time they replaced the timing
belt. The only negative is the poor baby has 52K on it (it's a
2002). My local trusty dusty mechanic says that this isn't much of a
concern with a Honda, and the miles aren't THAT high for a 2002. I
truly trust this man. He said his only concern is the whole
transmission thing.
We've been debating over a 2002 vs a 2003. Price of a 2002 tends to
be better considering that we are trying to also convert to a stay at
home parent family in the next year or two. The payment would
actually be less then for my Accord. Also we have family members
with 2002's that are thrilled. Would waiting awhile (if my back
holds out... lifting a 20lb kid into the back seat of a sedan is
killing me) and getting a 2003 be worth it? Or is the 2002
transmission pretty reliable after the recall/fix?
Please give me any insite that you have.
Thanks in advance!
