Hello All,

I joined this message board at the end of November and have enjoyed
reading your messages and issues daily. Your passion about CRV stuff
is overwhelming!

Anyway, I have a 2002 Black EX, which I got the first day it went on
sale. After 1500 miles, here are some things I've noticed:

1) The car is wonderful - great pickup, turning radius, handling.
The 6 CD player is awesome. The moon roof is great.

2) Yes, there is a slight clicking some times when braking. Anyone
experience similar???

3) Gas mileage seems to be only around 20mpg. What stinks is that I
only go 200 - 210 miles before refilling. Does this get better?
Could it be because the overdrive is defaulted to ON?

4) I got the moonroof wind visor, which really helped eliminate wind
coming into the car.

5) The wipers seem to hesitate - is this because they're new, or did
they install cheap wipers? Any recommendations?

6) The automatic shift is VERY close to the wiper control. When
changing from wiper settings, I often touch the shift before
realizing what I'm doing... any comments?

7) The CRV does not look good without the roof rack - can it be
installed, even though there is a moon roof? Where can I get? Easy
to install myself?

FYI - I paid $500 below sticker, however a trade was involved. I
feel that I got ripped off on the 7/100 warranty by paying $1,595,
but they were playing games with me. I could return it, however the
warranty did knock 1% off my loan, which saved me $600. Also, I got
an Automate alarm for $349. Mud flaps came with the car.
Considering the CRV is now VERY hard to find here, I still feel lucky
to have gotten the car.

Would appreciate feedback. (TJ - your pictures are nice).

Thanks, Regards, Jon C. - Long Island, NY

Happy New Year

If the brake clicking is when they are used hard or on slippery
surfaces, it could just be the anti-lock.
I have not noticed it on mine.

Is the "overdrive off" light on? The normal mode is for the
overdireve to be on, and the "Overdrive Off" light to be off.
If you defaults to the light on/overdrive off, I would have it
checked.

I got about 22 to 25 MPG in the first 3 tanks, but that was all on
the highway driving it home.

Warentees are a personal choice. They are more like insurance than a
real warentee.
If you can cancel it and not get hit on the loan point, then all the
better.
I can not think of anyone I know that had $1500 worth of mechanical
work done on a Honda with in the first 100,000 miles. (you luck may
vary).

Hey All,

97' CRV-EX, auto. Bought it from a Ford dealer 13 months ago, with
58K, who had taken it on a trade-in. Started to notice two problems:

1. Bass rumbling noise when turning hard.
2. *PANG* sound like a hammer striking a pipe when shifting from drive
to reverse or reverse to drive.

Took it to Honda of Seattle for the 75K service. The Tech confirmed
both noises.

1. Changing the rear differential fluid fixed the rumbling noise when
turning hard.
2. Tech says there is 'play' in the drive shaft and needs to replace
it - $900.

I bought a $1200 warranty (3/36K) from the Ford dealer, who IS going
to cover it...

I agree the side roof rails look like somebody forgot to finish
installing the roof rack.

I installed the Roof Rack on my 02 EX myself. All you need is a 5 MM
Allen wrench 3/8 socket [got the socket at Home Depot]. There are 12
bolts, 3 on each corner. Piece of cake. Let me know if you get any
wind noise after install. I am and I am wondering if moonroof visor
does not fix this noise.

Where has this list BEEN for the last 3 years? *heh* Just joined,
details on my new silver 2002 EX coming soon...

*LOL* Just this morning I attempted to put the car in reverse by
grabbing the wiper control. The wife drove it home from the
dealership last night and attempted to put it in gear by grabbing the
soft drink bottle in the drink holder. *LOL* (previous car was '98
Silver EX w/ manual tranny)

I'll post an intro and my initial review (and hopefully some pics)
soon....

Mileage will improve as the miles add up. I test and rent vehicles, mostly
domestic makes, after about 20K miles the mileage levels off to the best
you'll see. The worst are new to a couple of thousand miles.
CLICKING- sounds like a loose brake shoe, but give the V a few more miles to
see if that is the culprit.
