Picked up my 2002 Silver EX Automatic yesterday from the dealer.
By way of backround, I previously owned a 1997 CR-V w/ABS. I had put 74,000 driving miles on it and also towed it behind my Motorhome for another 40,000 miles. I sold it to a private party in November.
After picking up my '02 I had an hour and a half before I had to leave and surprise my wife at the airport. She had gone up to Chicago to see family.
My shed was full of Honda goodies I had ordered from H and D Accessories. In the hour and a half I:
1. Installed Front Splash Guards. 2. Removed Rear Tire cover and installed Hubcap. I like to bear it. That Alloy Wheel looks tough. 3. Installed Wheel Locks. 4. Installed Cargo Net. 5. Installed Rear Cargo Mat. 6. Installed Front Roof Rack Bar. Rear Roof Rack Bar bolts were not lining up so I quit and...
Grabbed some CD's, our 2 dogs and was off to the Airport.
Low end torque is awesome. Besides, engine is smooth and quiet. Found myself doing 80 when I thought I was going 70. Road noise while not perfect, is vastly improved over '97. Seats seem higher and lots more lumbar support. Sunroof gets a little noisy at speed (80), but bearable. Might consider Moonroof visorr so I can hear my Enya CD a little better. Anyone on this list have any experience with this moonroof visor. Using CD Player took some playing around, but I got it playing and CD is of course much improvement over my Casette in the '97.
I did not like center rear headrest and removed it while waiting at the airport. It blocks too much of my rear view mirror field. Will try it again in a few weeks once I am used to car. More back room. Our 12 pound Maltese is used to jumping over rear seat and playing in back. Returning by jumping up on the top of the rear seat. Not in the '02. The 4 inches of deeper rear cargo area makes a difference.
Steering is very steady and good feel. My perception is that I have to turn the wheel a tad more on curves and turns.
The dash gauges at night are bright neon orange. Looks pretty impressive. I do not like where they put the dash lights dimmer. Next to tachometer. You have to threah arm through steering wheel spokes to adjust. Not real safe.
Light on window switches nice and located where it belongs. Auto down and UP[new] for driver is nice feature. What happens if you get arm or something caught in window while in auto mode? It merely stops or reverse immediately.
Brakes feel a bit mushy. Not sure if due to newness or a characteristic. They stop well however. Just seem to need to apply more pressure than I am used to.
Transmission seems a little clunky when shifting from Reverse to Drive. However upshifts and downshifts in forward gears are smooth.
Today I finsihed roof rack. Had to loosen bar and extend it 1/4". Installed Wood Dash Trim kit today. Followed directions of pullinh back partial tape and then masking it to front. Very tedious process, but well worth it.
By the way I had took the fog lights to my dealer before the car came in. They installed them before I picked it up.. It cost an hour and a half labor and after reviewing 16 pages of instruction, felt it worthwhile.
There are storage nooks everywhere. The rear doors actually have 2 storage pockets in each door. A top and a bottom. They could have done same in the front doors, but, unfortuneately they didn't.
I had asked to have fog lights wired so that I could also use them with just parking lights on. Mechanic said they could not do this as all of the wiring goes through a multiplexor. Hope to hear some suggestions from others on this list regarding this.
Also red reflectors in rear bumper would be great spot for stop and tail light assembly for towing. Maybe someone will find a housing that comes close to fitting this area.
By the way. I sold my '97 for $12,250 I paid $23,900 out the door for my '02 from a dealer 5 miles from home.
Hope this info is useful.
If there is an interest I will follow up with other things I discover next year.
