As was the clutch plate. I had a '71 and an '82 Saab. The vehicles were clearly designed not only be maintained, but maintained in a climate where you didn't want to be getting under the car.
The problem was, as much as I liked the cars, they were definitely high-maintenance vehicles.
I guess low-maintenance with an poorly located oil filter isn't a bad trade off, but why-oh-why did Honda put the 1st generation oil filter just above the catalytic converter (and the dipstick under the manifold's heat shield)? One of the Honda mechanics even commented "If you happen to touch the cat while doing an oil change, plan on losing some skin."
Is the filter in the 2nd generation CR-V also near the cat? Did Honda at least improve the dip stick design so you don't need a flashlight to find where it goes back in?
