Does anyone have the 2002 CR-V LX *with* side impact air-bags? That's how
I've ordered mine. I can't think why someone would not want these.
Feedback?

Martha, I was not aware that you could even do that.. Thought the
options with the trim levels (LX, EX) could not be changed..

If you head to Honda.com, you can add the Side air bags to an LX model. I
just wish it would allow you to add ABS to an LX as well!
An LX + ABS + Side air bags = a reasonably safe vehicle without all the
high profit margin items!

The EX comes standard with the side airbags.  YOu can order the LX that way.  But it's not like you get a regular LX, then have the dealer add those bags, you have to get the car from the factory that way, and not many are.  I had to special order mine, and it will probably arrive in 2-3 months, hasn't even been made yet.

I grew up learning to "pump" brakes, and am afraid my instinct is pretty strong and would be hard to undo.  Therefore, I specifically prefer not to have ABS.  But the ABS cannot be found in any form on the LX, only on the EX.

The EX also has tinted glass, which I also specifically do *not* want, as I find it too much at nite.

I too grew up with the "pump the brakes" method. It took about a week to get over once you feel how the ABS works. It is great. I never want to have a car without it.

Funny. I just got my LX last night and today I noticed it had side
airbags even though I didn't specifically ask for that feature. I
don't think that's a bad thing, especially since I didn't pay any
extra for it. (I don't think the side airbag sensor is necessary,
BTW.)

Is it sometimes luck of the draw what additonal features you may get?
Maybe they just look for the vehicle nearest you that is the closest
to what you ask for. I did have a pretty short wait period for the
area I live in (10 days). Anyone else have this experience?

Are you sure that what you think are *FREE* side airbags aren't just dummy
fill panels so that Honda only needs one seat type??

Definitely. The side airbag sensor is difficult to ignore...

Should be getting mine next week, I hope. I'll check it out when I get
it but suspect dummy panels. What really ticks me off is that you have
to pay for a bunch of stuff you don't want to get a safety feature
like ABS that should be available on all models. I couldn't swing
the extra for the EX just to get ABS so had to go with the LX.

They'll probably give you the spec sheet that would have hung in the
window if your CRV stayed on the lot. It will mention the "Driver's
and Front Passenger's Air Bags" (as mine does)in safety section if
you have them. If they do use dummy panels, I don't think they would
be clearly marked as airbags because that would be misleading. Also
look for the "Side Airbag Off" indicator light when you turn on the
ignition.

The LX may be somewhat of a crapshoot with what extras you get, so
good luck!
