I posted this message on another site. Mine has 28K miles.
I have had similar problems with shuddering and vibrating while
braking. I assumed warped rotors or a loose steeing joint. I took it
to a Southern California Honda dealer today and explained problem.
Their first response was that brakes are only covered for the first
12,000 miles, and there would be a $35 fee to inspect. They came back
and said that the problem was brake dust causing the "sqeaking
problem" we were experiencing, I questioned the diagnosis since I
wasn't even concerned about "sqeaking" and that the problem was
severe vibrating while braking hard. They then said that this problem
is caused by warped rotors, which is caused by overheating the
brakes. They said that since this vehicle is heavy the brakes can
over heat and warp. I asked if the vehicle is heavy wouldn't they
design the braking system to accommadate the extra weight. The
service MANAGER said and I quote"You would think so, we have had
problems with the engineers" regarding this matter. He also said"the
brake pads that used to come on the Odysseys have been redesigned so
they don't over heat" When I questioned the design and said since it
was a design flaw they should cover this under warranty, he offered
to turn the rotors, but we would be responsible for paying for new
pads. I told him that turning the rotors was not acceptable, since I
will eventualy need to turn them anyway for normal maintance, and I
would have less material to work with. He said that is all he would
do. I called

and spoke with their rep, and she said she would turn it over to a
regional case manager, but would not allow me to speak with her
supervisor or give the name of the case manager. I told her I wanted
to speak with her supervisor, she said she would give him the
message, but doubted he would contact me before the 5-6 days it take
to get the case manager to go through the data. She eventualy called
me back later in the day to say that she spoke with her supervisor
and he said they were not going to offer any more than the original
service manager did. That since the brakes would be turned to within
manufactures specifications that was all they were required to do.
She still refused to allow me to speak with any of her supervisors. I
feel that the rotors and pads should be replaced under warranty, free
of any charge to me. Since the rotors were not designed properly to
stop the vehicle without over heating, and the pads have been
redigned as a "Band-Aid" for a poor design. We also had another
problem at the same time with the drivers door lock actuator, that
they also were incompettent to repair today, but that is a whole
nother story.
Unsatisfied Honda Owner, Don
Spelling and grammer may not be that great, I have no excuse for
that, sorry.
