I am a newbie to these forums so please be gentle.

I have a problem with my '98 CR-V where the fan speed is stuck on high. You can twist the control knob cw and ccw with no effect - the blower continues full blast.

Interestingly, the AC compressor does respond to the switch position (when defrosting).

I did some searching of these forums and only found one post suggesting a faulty resistor on the blower motor.

I would tend to think that the control unit itself is the problem (rheostat maybe). The whole heater control assembly is quite expensive although I could probably get one from a salvage yard for 50 bucks or so.

Anyone encounter something like this? Could it be the blower or is it more likely the control unit? Or, maybe it's something else like a short or a fuse.

Thanks in advance to anyone who replies.

p.s. One other thing to note: I first noticed this problem right after the car came off the lift after getting new tires. I would think that would be the cause but maybe there was some body flex that caused a short or something? I dunno.

Problem solved.

It was the blower transistor.
